    SL650 vs. Seadoo 650

We just got a steal of a deal on two older skis and trailer. They both run great but the Polaris seems really underpowered compared to the Seadoo. I don't want to do anything too complicated to the Polaris but I would like to know if there are a few things I could do to make it at least stay in the range of the Seadoo. If not, I'm also looking at a mint Polaris 900 that I know I can get for a good price. How much faster would the 900 be compared to the 657 Seadoo?

That doo runs good and it wasn't until the 750 came along that it could give the Doo a run for its money. I don't think I'd try pouring the money into the Polaris 650 but instead opt for the 900 that will of course spank the Doo.
The 900 runs in the 58-60 neighborhood and loves mods.

Oh and WELCOME to the Green Hulk Forums!!

What year is your SL650? The 92 and 93 had a very inefficient pump. The pump introduced in 94 was basically used till the end of the Polaris line of skis. If it is the old style upgrading would be a big difference. If that's the case talk to ZMANN. He's already done that upgrade and can tell you what it is worth as far as performance. The 900 sounds tempting.

I don't really want to put too much in the 650 when I know I can sell it and make a few hundred to put towards the 900, plus I know the history of the 900. The problem then becomes is the 900 going to be too fast for the Seadoo to keep up with.

The 650 is a '93, what kind of price would I be looking at for the new pump?

Thanks for the replies, this seems to be a great forum.

I will say this I have had both a 94 seadoo XP and a 94 Polaris 650. The doo had more speed but the Polaris rode much better. The Doo is a smaller hull compared to the Polaris. Just putting this out there. With some upgrades my Polaris will spank the Doo, and the doo has many upgrades as well.

The SL900 is closer to the performance of a 96XP or 97-up spx with the 787cc motor. I'd sell the SL650, put the few extra hundred you said you'd make and take the SL900. Then sell the 650 doo(can you make a few hundred off it too?) and go get you a 96XP. Now we're talkin'!!!

yeah your current Doo won't keep up with the 900 unless they are on the same trailer going down the highway.

Sorry I missed this! What year is the Doo? The 92 650 was the fastest in it's class before mods! but if you don't like wrenching definitely move on! It took about 30 man hours to dial mine in and about 750.00$ however now it runs like a new ski! Z

My XP reminded me of a older Harley I used to have....... I spent more time wrenching on it then I did riding it. On the Polaris all I had to do was replace the stator bearings and up-grade the fuel pump and had 0 problems out of the ski, when it was stock!!!
