    Got the motor torn apart...

Well if you check out my other thread, it said how the boat injested some water and I couldn't get it started back up. We got the motor out of the hull and the jugs off. There seems to be a lot of blowby on all the cylinders as well as the middle cylinder has some pretty bad abrasions...or should I say chunks out of the ringland. The crank seems to spin pretty easily and the rods aren't visibly bent, but I know that doesn't mean much. The pistons are also scored as well as the jugs...

I guess the question is what to do from here. We have a great condition '96 SL780 hull with this motor torn apart. Should we just sell the hull or build something up? What are my options as far as building the motor up? Or maybe a swap?

If we do sell the hull, what other boat should I get? I do like Polaris, but they don't make new boats anymore. I am pretty fond of the Pro 785, but they aren't new anymore and great condition ones are hard to come by. Any other brands making any good skis? AAHHH!! Decisions decisions!!!

It's up to you. How much $$ do you want to invest? You could send the crank out for rebuild and fix it, or get a used engine, or parts it out for a little $$$. Your call.

Bummer. Maybe part it out and put the bucks towards a 1050 or 1200??
Otherwise you'll need to commit to the engine and keep her for a while.

Just wondering, what are my options as far as fitting a 900 or 1050 in the hull?

Mick, prices look about correct, except the starter. It's about half of the price you posted for a new one on Ebay.

Will a 900 or 1050cc motor drop in an SL780 hull without major problems?

Does anyone know? After looking at another thread about an SLX780 with some pretty major piston damage, I think mine may have had some sort of foreign object in the combustion chamber. There are chips off from the crown of the piston, but not nearly as bad as the other guy's. Also, it seems all 3 pistons have some pretty bad blow-by. Any reason for that?

The swap is not an easy one, prob. very involved, but is possible. You'd need a different exhaust set up, electrical box, and carb cables would be different. And maybe the engine mounts too? A number of things could havecau ed your problem... low oil, lean running, overheat, etc.... Got any pics? These guys are like PWC CSI's.
