water - please give me ideas

ok, so I have a sl 750 that had taken on water. I just acquired it from my brother. It has not been in the water since last year. We put the battery in to see if it would turn over. It didn't, so we took the spark plugs out, and like some of the others notes on the forum, it sprayed water and oil 4 ft high when we hit the starter. We drained the gas, no water there. None in the oil tank either. We checked the compression on all three cylinders, it was 150+. We sprayed starter fluid to try to dry some water up.....where do we go from here???

yeah, it never started....but we weren't trying to start it...but it did turn over every time. We did not put the plugs back in and try it again, because we wanted to give it some time to dry out.

FOG the engine extremely well. Get it down to the water and run it. My guess it its life will be short lived due to a years worth of bearing abuse with water.
Although I've seen many that shouldn't run for even a minute and go for years..........
Split the electrical box and check for signs of water intrusion, pay particular attention to the bottom side of the board.

It means while the engine is running spray fogging oil into the carbs so that the oil is ingested on the internals of the engine and protects the components from water and other contaminants.
You should do this after every outing.

Go to the marina, or even like an auto parts store and buy some Marine Fogging oil.

Then, follow the instructions on the bottle. Basically you are going to spray the fogging oil down the carburators, in the spark plug holes and what not.

Also known as "fogging the engine"

Hit a marine shop/accessory store or even motorcycle/quad store.
