Go to Trendmicro.com and run the free scan they have. Many times it will remove the crap your antivirus cannot. Prior to running the free scan, make sure you close out your antivirus temporarily.

Norton causes more problems than it solves imo, as do many antivirus programs. Here's what I ended up doing; removed all antivirus software, installed a spyware program, use Opera as a browser and my wireless Linksys router as a firewall. Still virus free.
I realize this may sound off the wall, and if you decide you just can't live without an antivirus program, then at least get rid of Norton and go with Kapersky, you can get a free trial download. You will notice your pc running a lot faster without Norton. Oh, and use a proxy when surfing high risk sites, like porn

I did what was stated above.... just put spyware detector and used the router as a firewall.
for corporate applications symantec and mcaffee are the top sellers along with trend micro

To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.
Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe mode - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP safe mode as the computer is booting into Windows, turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the safe mode screen.
I've used avg, linksys firewall, and firefox for years now, only had one virus and that was because I'm a moron. If you are using Internet Explorer stop now and most of your problems will go away once you get cleaned up.
