Question 99 SLTX - No Spark

I just bought a 99 SLTX. We have replaced the battery, tested the spark plug cables, used a 9 volt battery to test the stator and everything seems fine. We can get a charge from the battery but not to the spark plug cable (the part that actually connects to the plug) Anyone have any idea where I should go next?

WELCOME to the Green Hulk Forums.
What values did you get for the stator tests?
And while cranking the engine, what is the voltage at the battery?

Going to test everything again tonight and I will log the results and post them ASAP.

Also, did you cut back the spark plug wires about a 1/4 inch and put the plug part back on to insure you have a good connection?

So we ran some tests and here are the results:

    SPARK PLUG WIRES AND PLUGS

    • The plug wires are not PVL
    • The plugs are not resistor type to the best of our knowledge (we don’t know how to tell)
    • They put out the following:
      • Shortest: 3.8 ohms
      • Medium: 4.5 ohms
      • Long: 6 ohms

    PVL IGNITION

    • positive lead to purple wire no reading. (Open)
    • positive lead to grey wire .25 ohms (3 cylinder engine).
    • positive lead to brown wire 50 ohms
    • positive lead to red, green, blue, red/purple wire no reading.

WE HAVEN’T IDENTIFIED ANY ISSUES WITH THE TRIGGER COIL.
    - 9 volt battery test seemed to work

Obviously something is wrong with the electronics. We are looking for someone to help us diagnose and sell us the remedy (parts). We are wondering if we need kit # 2873356. If you think so, is the coil pack included? Do you think we need to update the spark plug wires and plugs? We are limited on cash right now. We would like to get it working for a month then upgrade to high end parts. However, we don’t want to distress the new parts.

Our spark plug wires are crimped on. We did not cut them back. We tested them and they produced a charge as mentioned in the previous post. Thoughts?

Andy, a lot of what you say doesn't quite make sense.
Go to the tech section and find the articles on PVL testing.
It will take you step by step, checking start/stop switch, lanyard, etc.
The most probable cause is the stator or CDI.
You state you test the stator with the 9 volt battery, yet post no results. These results are crucial to anybody making an educated guess as to your watercrafts problem. We need to KNOW the stator is or isn't triggering, no trigger no sparky sparky.
I know it's a pain to go through the entire procedure but it's a ,must unless you just want to install the kit. The kit will come with the CDI, coil and stator. You won't be throwing money away if it doesn't work as it's just a matter of time before you need the up-date.

Sorry for the delay. We were on vacation. (without our ski)

We will run the 9 volt battery test again. I cant find where I wrote the results down. I will repost them on Tuesday. How much and how long for the part you referenced. Feel free to take your price offline via email.

I don't sell any parts or upgrades unless they are something I have floating aorund.
One more quick thing to check as I've seen it a few times this month.
While cranking the engine see if you get power to the orange wire at the electrical board.

What is the problem if I am not getting a charge to the orange wire at the circuit board.
