    '98 vs '99/00 Pro 785

I came across a '98 Pro 785 with 13 hours on the clock for $3k including trailer. I do have to say I am in love with the '99/00 model and the color scheme, but is there ANY difference really between the '98 and the later models other than the paint/graphics? I just might have to "settle" for a '98 because this is one nice ski.

Does this year have problems with the hull cracking and splitting, or was that taken care of since the '97s?

sounds like a great deal the 98's where better hulls and they came with the better cdi's the only thing i didn't like where the nujet props they came with . i would switch it out with a skat trak 12/17 .

So $3000 is a good deal for a 9 year old ski? So the '98s was the best year as far as performance goes out of all of them? What is wrong, or should I say undesireable about the Nujet impeller? Thanks for the info!

they just fixed ALOT of crap from the 97...like the stronger exhaust manifold bolts...better cdi as mentioned......not sure if they fixed the top hull cracking at the rear by the warning sticker i think they did......it is a MUCH improved boat from the 97....but not better or worse than the 99+

3000 thousand is alot f money if you wheren't going to keep it but if you plan to keep it for a few years i would say it's a fair price . i've had about 4 98's and never seen one with a cracked hull all my 97's where cracked and all the 97's i've seen where cracked at one time . the nujet just doesn't preform as well as the skat trak . the 99-00 i think where the best preformance ski's but the 97-98 are great also to me you can't go wrong with any pro .

I either now own or have owned each year model of the Pro. Right now, I have a 97 and a 98. The 97 is stock and the 98 is a limited class race boat. 785lugs is right about the prop on the 98. Go with the Skat.

In my opinion, and this is only based on my personal experience, the 99 and 00 models handle better, or at least more aggressively. j They also seem to turn more RPMs in stock form than the 97 and 98 models. The 99 stock Pro ran 63-63.5 on GPS with a complete stock set up and 61.5-62.5 on radar in stock class legal race set up.

In any event, you can't go wrong with any of them. $3,000 does sound a little high, but only 13 hours is amazing for a 9 year old ski. Make sure the MFD wasn't changed out and the hours were reset.

I would plan on keeping the Pro for a long time. My SL780 just crapped out and I'm trying to decide what to do with it. I've always wanted one and I'm thinking about having the Pro for my personal use and the SL780 for my friends to go ride with me.

If $3000 is a little high, then what would you say is a fair price? Is there a way I could check to see if the MFD has been replaced? From the pictures, the boat looks pretty damned new and well taken care of.

I'm just rather confused as to why the '99+ models were faster and more aggressive? I would still take the '99+ model over the '98, but this one has from what I can tell HS waterbox, flame arrestors, gas pressure exhaust valves, and UMI steering.

I don't know if the 99/00 models are actually faster, but mine were faster than the stock 97 I have now and the limited 98. Maybe I was just lucky with those two?

I replaced the MFD on my former stock 99 Pro after the factory one broke. It started back at 0 hours. However, the ski only had 10 hours on it before the MFD went south.

i'd talk to the guy with all those extra parts i'm sure the mfd was reset or the guy lost interest in it .if it comes with a trailer 3000.00 isn't bad . try and get it for 2500.00 .sounds like it has some nice goodies on it . if it has the gas operated valves those are worth 500.00 alone .

Apparently he bought it from someone who didn't have time to ride it and he bought it as a rescue ski. So there really isn't any way to tell if the MFD has been replaced or reset other than if he tells me?

Another question that is a little bit different, how does a Pro 1200 compare to either one of these skis? If you put triples on a Pro 1200, does it make it much faster than a Pro 785?
