97 GTX giving me fits - any advice?

    Greetings, SeaDoo owners and lovers.

First post here, so please be kind

I am the owner of two 1997 SeaDoo GTX's. One of them I bought last summer and it is giving me some fits. Hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

When in calm water, the GTX runs just like it's twin. It'll cruise at WOT around 60 mph at 6700 RPM. However, whenever you get it into choppier water the ski will bog down and will hardly go at all. Eventually it'll re-engage and jump back to normal operation. But sometimes it can take a little bit of coaxing to make that happen (repeatedly disengaging and reengaging the throttle cable).

I'd almost say that it sounds like a rev limiter problem, but I'm not convinced that is the issue. Anyone have any thoughts on why when even the slightest bit of getting some "air" would cause the GTX to bog down?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

    Jeff

It might be the pipe where it meets the exhaust manifold.Sometimes it leaks under a load. Take the seat off and ride the ski and look. Make sure you pull that boot out of the way so you can see it.

Have you serviced the carbs? The flat water performance has me puzzled. Does it take longer to get to speed?

The carbs have not been serviced since I bought it (last August). It only has 50 original hours on it (not too bad for a '97).

As for getting to speed, it's the same as the other GTX as long as the water is calm.

    Check you voltage rectifier.

It's in the grey elec box, metal cube w/green goo top. There are four wires (one Red and three Yellow). Disconect the red wire and see if that fixes the problem. NOTE: you will not be charging the battery so don't go too long.
