Question Flame Arrestor Idea and Ride Plate Help

Ok I started taking off my ride plate, and I was using the biggest screw driver I had that fit the screw and started twisting and the freakin' head just broke off and now Im a little afraid to try the others

so can anyone tell me whats the best way to get them off? spray some WD-40 and pray they dont all break?

and second Im wanting to buy flame arrestors and I got to thinking about it and came up with this idea:

could you take off the stock air cover and cut off the sides so all you have is the top and put just the top back on to make like a sandwhich (top, filter, bottom), would that be any better that having it stock? or am I just completely retarded??

An "impact" screwdriver might work. I got mine at Home Depot for about $20. It has different size bits and you hit it with a hammer which makes the bit dig in while torquing the screw loose. I used it on a stator screw that was had very little left on the screw head. First whack did the job.

You need a screw extractor but the screws are stainless. So you will need a cobalt drill bit to drill a hole for the extractor. I'd use the impact screwdriver also.

    Same thing on my ski!

Just had the same exact thing happen on my boat. Except for me it was the last bolt. Anyways I just took a carbide metal cutting drill bit and but two holes in the bolt and it just fell apart and came out. Its crude but pretty much just drill whats left until it comes out. It worked for me at least........ Good luck with it

As for the flame arrestor...many have done it including myself but really makes no difference and just really allows the more chance of getting water drops/mist sucked into the carbs...I went back and put on a stock cover. To really make any difference you need to get seperate carb flame arrestors.

Do you have a pic of your F/A? I thought 780 had a performance F/A, like a PRO already, but for 38mm?
