    Post GP1300R Steering Sensor Comparison 2003-2005 / 2006-2007

I got to see the difference in steering sensiors this weekend on YAMATOYS' 07 GP1300R. He had his handlebar pad off and thought I'd take these pic to share with everyone.

The 2003-2005 have a sensor that is mounted on the steering shaft with a magnet on the pitman arm. the sensor senses the magnet on the pitman arm if the steering is full left or right.

The 2006/7 uses a sensor mounted on the top hull/steering deck with a plate that is attached to the steering shaft. The plate on the steeing shaft makes contact on the sensor if the steering is full left or right.

    * The first 3 pics are of the steering sensor mounted just below the handlebar pad.

    * The next 3 pics are of the 2003-2005 steering sensor mounted nbelow the hull top deck on the bottom of the steering shaft.

Off throttle steering thingy. ie if you are going fast and turn handle bars and take finger off the gas it will increase revs so you steer. Only of use to numpties.

With the difference in the sensor positioning in the 07 will I be able to install an UMI steering? Will the sensor need to be reinstalled? If I don't reinstall the sensor will I get an error code? I know that is numerous questions but I was about to take off the stock steering and install the UMI and the handle bars.

I would just install nice polished or painted Clamps and Bars. See my handlebar install in my signature under pics or John Abbott's handlebar thread.

    Thanks Billy,

I will install the handle bars for now then maybe later install the UMI steering. Where did you get your grips?
