    SC Ceramic Washer Failure Update

For those curious about broken SC washers, my dealer spoke with SD today about this and this is what they reported back:

SD is saying they know of people running with broken washers in their skis. Some fail, some don't. They said the issue on the ones that fail is the debris clogs the oil pump, not the cylinders. And once the oil plug clogs, it causes engine wide failures.

SD told them it didn't require pulling the engine, as the engine covers (where the screens are) could be removed with the engine in. Then of course an oil change. The dealer quoted me a two hour job on the screens and I can do the oil change myself.

Well, a $200 labor bill is probably a good deal for the piece of mind it gives you.

rx, yes you get new ceramic washers with the RR kit. You also get a new lock washer, needle bearings, shims and drive gear. You use the OEM spring washers (5), L-ring (1) and shaft nut (1).

rx, you only get instructions in the form of a diagram. But I posted the re-installation procedure in this thread:

Make sure to Locktite the nut when tightening it to the shaft.

Thanks for the info...I'm printing it and saving to my 3-ring binder. I still have to slip into work some evening and burn 900+ pages of that manual.
