785 Revs on trailer not in water

Just picked up this over the weekend. Runs fine on the trailer, in the water it is a slug. I noticed the PTO cylinder seemed to be cold as the MID and MAG cylinders would heat up when running on the trailer. I removed the carbs and found that the reeds for the PTO cylinder had a gap where the others did not. Could this be the problem?? I have spark and 180 Lbs of compression thru the cylinders.

Yes, race gas is run. My max RPM in water 5800. Will not rev in water.

Valves open. I have done these checks and are looking into other problems. If it is not the reeds, i am assuming i have a leak in the exhaust that is causing the problem.

didnt know you have done all those checks before......reeds shouldnt be open....problem 1...but i dont think its your rpm problem...i would look for an exhaust leak like u said.

You may want to check the timing. If you have spark in all 3 cylinders and everything else looks good.. It may be time to replace the flywheel key...
