    new engine?

i have a 650sl 92 and it appears to have a 93 cooling system. when i bought it the guy had overheated the 3rd cylinder so i replaced the head and piston and now i have done the same thing. the alarm never went off. so now the question is what to do for a new engine. i heed a new rod, piston and sleeve. so what should i do get an sbt engine? get a used one on ebay? i need help and we are in the middle of summer. so i want to fix it quick. thanks

FIRST find out why it happened.... as far as rebuilt short blocks go..there are a few with no fault warrantys.(meaning if u screw it up for whatever reason u get a new motor ..ex..forget to put oil in it etc..)... www.sbtontheweb.com www.pmcna.com www.shortblocks-r-us.com

    What's wrong with the rod?
Are the cases full of metal shavings?
I'm just trying to understand why you think a new engine is in order.

the rod is messed up because it has a tone of up and down freeplay in it. so i thought since you needed to take out the crank a new one is about 350 and new pistons are about 350. and i was thinking a motor is about 800 but i am open to ideas if it dosent need a new motor what should i do? any ideas why it overheated the 3 cylinder. please help. thanks

My guess is a fuel restriction.
    Bad fuel lines
    Weak fuel pump
    Fuel selector valve
    Plugged/dirty carbs

I would go through them all and replace the basic pump with a triple outlet.

i have not gone through the carbs but i did replace the oem fuel pump with the mikuni. the jet ski ran fine the first couple days i had it out. so does that eliminate a fuel issue?

Not at all. I'd check the filters in the carbs just to make sure, otherwise I'd have to think air leak.
