    Prop fell off

I was out riding today,I did a 80+ pass and the ski's prop seemed to be slipping so I idled back to the dock and it was taking on water.I took the home tore the pump off to find the prop came off the shaft, the prop has been on there since the beginning of the summer the reason it was taking on water was the shaft dropped a little, loosing its seal, has any one else had this happen to them?

If he was doing 80+ passes i doubt it was a stock prop.

Have had this happens to some of my race ski's. The props can come unscrewed especially on high rpm skis. Thats why you have to use locktight and really torque the impeller.

It happened to me also. I ended up replacing the plastic cup on the front of the shaft where the prop pushing the shaft forward tore it up. Sort of glad it messed up my carbon ring or I would have never took out the shaft. Something you might want to take a look at.

This just happened to watermedic too
How on earth are these things unscrewing expecially since the driveshaft rotation actually should be tightening the impeller

I know why mine did it. Slick titanium coating was on the surface where it torqued against the shaft.

even though it is turning the direction that would tighten the impeller, nothing is holding the pump shaft so it's not going to tighten against a shaft that is spinning in a bearing. Ever consider this-- the pump shaft is turning in the direction that will loosen it! take a pump with a loose impeller and hold the impeller but turn the shaft the direction that it rotates when in the ski...
the vibration and harmonics can cause something like this set-up to loosen. I've always said that if you don't take your pump apart every week it needs blue loctite on the impeller threads.
