Wear Ring on GTI
My g/f recently messed up the impeller and wear ring on the GTI. The dealer ended up just grinding the knicks out of the impeller, and I put in a new wear ring. I ended up picking up a new impeller for 60 shipped off ebay. Question is, do you need a new wear ring if I am putting in a new impeller? I don't wanna buy another, this one only has a few hours on it. And I read some people just flip their's around, can I do that or is it fine?

If your wear ring is in good shape, just install the new impellar. Some people flip there rings after 20 hours. If your not having any performance issues, I would wait. I would rather ride than wrench! After 20 hours flip the ring and install the new impellar.

Just put your pump in the freezer for twenty minutes or so and your wear ring will pop right out without removing your impeller.. Flip the wear ring around and pop the pump back in..in and out in 30 Mins.

Its my experience that the freezer method doesn't always work, after two hours in the feezer my wear ring is still in there so solidily that I can't get it out.

I am not worried about the wear ring replacement and getting it out, I can do that. I didn't know if I you should replace the wear ring when you replace the impeller. I will just pull it out and look at it. If it doesn't look good I will just flip it around.
