    $5 intake upgrade

Provided you have a 3" hole saw. I just do not believe the stock intake is that restrictive especially considering there is no filter versus the intakes with filters. If you want a filter then I understand the need to change. I know cars dyno higher with no filter and my turbo car spools and make more power with no filter just an intake screen. The roots charger will have to work less trying to draw air through an intake with no filter versus a filter.

The stock air horn inlet is 3.25" and never does the stock intake neck down to less than 3". Also, there is no filter. My opinion is the stock intake is more than adequate for a 250hp engine it just needs to be massaged for less obstruction to sucking in air.

Attached are some pictures of what I did to change the intake. Parts are readily available from Lowes/HD. The size of the hole is 3". I now have 2 3" holes and the stock 3.25" hole to draw air in.

Good ingenuity. I hope you see an improvement!

I did not measure, but believe the hose to the supercharger is 3"??? Anyway, the air has to make 2 90 degree bends after the stock airbox. The riva and r rated are both ~4" then couple down right at the supercharger inlet.

I believe that is also the "restriction" aftermarket was overcoming. This way there is mass volume up to the 2" of restriction straight into the inlet.

    Can't beat 5 bucks though!!!

3.5" hose to stock intake. So the inlet to the sc is 2". If so the picture from r rated showing the massive suction on the sc makes sense.

I think the stock air box has plenty of volume you just have to get the air into it.

I don't know if we're communicating, but SC inlet is bigger than 2"

I'm curious too, it's more air, but hot air.

I'm tempted to make some back to back runs with and without the seat on to see it it has any effect on RPMS, has anyone tried it for s#$%^ and grins?

The performance gain will not come with the density of the air as much as the SC will be able to draw air in easier.

A roots tends to gain more by letting it draw air easier than blow air easier, where as a centri/turbo tends to gain more on the discharge side.

In general the above is true.

My opinion is very little to gain here. The SC needs to have an easier time of getting the air in. Improve the efficiency of the sc on the suction side and it should make more power. Hot air versus cold air on an IC FI engine usually does not make much difference.
