    Question GP1300R problem: need help!

A friend of mine has a 2003 GP1300R with a problem we can't seem to solve. It will foul plugs intermittently. Usually #1, but it has fouled #2 or #3 on occasion. He has TJ porting, runs about 155 psi across all 3, VF-2s. The problem usually arises after idling or running at low speeds for awhile. It will foul brand new plugs in 10 minutes. He has swapped to a new EFI, changed the complete electrical box, wiring harness, and even the brain.

When adjusting the high speed setting on the efi, he can go from 3 to 9 and not really see too much change in rpm, just a change in responsiveness.

It all seemed to start when he swapped the throttle body after blowing it up last year. He was running 79 mph before this all started.

Could this be a symptom of failing fuel injectors? The fuel controller he installed came from a boat that sunk. Could the injectors be not completely closing? Is there a way to test them? Could something else on the fuel rail cause this problem?

The only other thing we can think of is he has a problem with the stator.

    HELP!

I see you said the problem started after you switched throttle bodys. Most likely you are going to have to back the TPS up a little.

    Jim,

It will cause all the problems, or some of them? It is hard to see how it is all related....

If the TPS is set to high it will idle bad and it will load up very quick, And you will lack power because of the plugs being soaked with gas.

Did he swap one of the throttle bodies or the whole rack? If it was just one its probably out of sync. If its the whole rack its probably TPS as Jim said.

Yep. DB. I sent him a different set of TBs and injectors to try. He should get them today. I can understand the TPS being out of adjustment causing part of the problem, but how would that cause the EFI adjustment to be so minimal? When you make adjustments on the red pot, are the changes very noticeable? If you change the setting from 3 to 5 (or whatever your setting happens to be) how drastic is the change?

    I feel for him.

I have already sent him a chit load of stuff to try, including T-Bodies.

On mine the high speed from 8 to 7 just drops rpms like 30. Same acceleration. No changes on bottom.

I wonder if he has pressure tested the pipe (water jackets) ?

I don't think he did that one yet.
