I have never used either tach, but others have and hopefully will tell you their experiences with them. Ride plate depends on what water conditions you ride in. You can get away with a stock 95 or 96 SLX plate probably pretty cheap on ebay or from one of the guys on here like Zig. An ocean pro plate would be for rough water conditions. There are so many to choose from I think there was a name that ride plate thread somewhere.

you will have to get the one for the three cyclinder for it to work. It works sometimes and sometimes it dose not. You will have to play with it to get a good reading. If you do get it I can share some tricks to get it to work. But I would go for a factory tach.

I looked for a factory tach but I have a 92 SL650 mo MFD or anything really. What kind should I be looking for? I can mount it similar to how you did yours. I really just want it to tune it correctly then I am not that concerned but it would be nice. I understand RPM's are important for these and I have no idea where I am on that part. It is running OK and its pretty fun but with the new extended pump and probably getting a new CDI box I want it to run like it should. I will put a WTB in the calssifieds to see if I can find someone with a ride plate may get lucky. Thanks guys

I'd just pick up a used one from any year SLX, SL900, SL1050. They are all the same. It will offer good top end, but will not handle as well as an aftermarket piece. They should be available for about $25 used. Mine is damaged, or i'd send it with the pump.

I scored a Polaris tach off Ebay for $45. Keep your eyes open.
