Yesterday I rode the BRP Spyder

BRP is conducting demo rides of a prototype Spyder @ the Shawmut Hills dealership in Grand Rapids from yesterday thru Monday. Took them up on the offer. It was a fun, easy ride, about 10 miles, on some rural two lane roads. Would of been nice to get on some roads that would allow the rider to wind the Spyder up a little more and go thru some more curves. Very stable ride though I would like a ride that requires more rider input.
Apparently BRP is touring the country w/these demos for the consumer to test ride. You may want to check w/your local BRP dealership to find out if the tour will be stopping there. If so take it for a demo ride. A cycle endorsement on your driver's license is required to be allowed to ride it.
Also, you can check out a short clip of the Spyder @ www.wxmi.com (WXMI - channel 17) - Tech Trends on the web. Spyder Hybrid is the name of the clip.

Looks like a snowmobile with wheels to me. Does it ride anything like one?

It is impossible (is there such a word) to flip due to the stability control computer. As soon as one of the front wheels begin to lift off the ground the stability control cuts in and ends the fun. It also has ABS and traction control. None of these can be turned off. The traction control will still let you light the rear tire up to about 30mph, as long as the bars are straight. Being used to motorcycles, the lack of a front brake lever on the R/ handlebar and the no lean in turning type ride, took some getting used to. ATV or snowmobile riders will feel more natural on the Spyder. They come in either yellow and black or silver and black. I have one of the first release models on order and expect it in by October.

I bet you can flip it if you try hard enough and are dumb/crazy enough.

And I figured that would be the case. Hell, just look at the hood...it's a knock off of their old Rev platform for snowmobiles.

me and my friend got to take a couple out on an a great ride, through azuza canyon in so cal. we got to really put them to the test, they are very stable through turns, could almost keep up with the sport bikes through the canyon. turning is similar to riding a quad. was able to get on on two wheels in a sharp turn out of a parking lot. the fastest we went is 110. very stable at that speed as well. they are a lot of fun.
