How to tell an SBT engine from a stock yamaha engine? (1200 non-pv)

From the SBT website, they look like they are painted or powercoated black.. is this true? Whereas the stockers are dark grey/silver and the head bolts are not painted... is this the case? the reason I ask, is I'm looking to purchase another used gp1200 soon and I found one I like with some mods, but the owner is unsure what I mean about re-built/re-manufactured engine... so I have to find it out on my own. looking at a rather poor picture of the engine bay, the head looks to be black, while the exhaust pipe is still the factory dark grey/silver.. does this mean it has an sbt engine?

Here is the picture I'm referring to that she sent me (they are 4 and 1/2 hours away by the way.. so I MUST find this information out before I make the trip) Again, I DO NOT want an SBT rebuilt engine! So if someone can verify that it has one, then that would be great in a way so I can pull this ski off my list of possiblities.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jared

I believe SBT paints the head bolts... removing the head voids the warr.

Stock yamaha engines can also come in all black.

ONly real way is to look for a serial #sticker that they put on there. I think they usually put it on the front cylinder. Maybe ask over at sbttoday.com?

I did ask over there.. no reply.. never a reply until days later it seems! What do you think of the picture? She is going to send me more detailed pictures.. but does it look like an SBT engine? I remember my 97 had a dark grey/silver engine... and I KNOW it was all stock.

With the bolts being painted, my vote is that it is an SBT...

Either way motor has been out and painted black. I would be skeptical and look for something else.

what year is it? My 99 has a black motor with a blue pipe. That hull is white, so I am guessing 97 or 98? Either way, the head bolts are not painted from the factory. Did you try sbt's pathetic excuse for a forum?

Definately need alot better than a stupid cell phone pic.
