    99 Gp1200r

Hi. I'm interested in buying a 1999 GP1200R. I was just curious if anyone could share some pro's and con's with me. I heard the GP1200R has an issues with the cotter pin falling off the powervalves into the cylinders...which doesnt sound like fun.
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

    Josh

Welcome to the forum. First off, if it is a GP1200R, its a 2000-2002 model. And yes they do have a powervalve issue that can be fixed relatively cheap. Do a search for waveeater pins.

Thanks, I'll definitely look into that if I get it. Do you think $3500 is a reasonable price for 1999 GP1200 with 73.8 hrs?

I would pay that for a 1999 GP1200, or a 2000 GPR. Do you have a picture of it?

this guy said it has an upgraded after market trim package. but he also said "there were some very minor damage to the fiberglass at the very front of the boat from when [his] little brother rode it up on the trailer too fast. Could have easily been left alone, but repaired the fiberglass and repainted the front end." It comes with the trailer, which doesnt look like a top-notch trailer but whatever...

Be careful when buying a used modified ski. Get us details on the aftermarket parts that are installed. If he listed the ski as a 1999 GP1200R, that raises a red flag with me and tells me he does not know what the hell he is talking about.

Riva had a 99 GP1200r with triple pipes other than that the GP1200r started in 2000.
I am sure you didn't get a triple piper

    * do a compression check when you go look at it.
    * look under the hull for any signs of major damage/repairs.
    * ask for a test drive in the water for atleast 15 minutes.
    * inspect all the cables, hoses and keep an eye on the display for any warning beeps/lights when test driving it.
    * after you ride it, look for any leaks in the hull.
