GP 1300 Overheating / Shutting down

Hey guys, I'm sure you noticed that a not a Yamaha guy.. as of yet.. But anyway.. My buddy has a GP1300 with a problem that after about 1-2hours of riding the boat starts to shut down and sputter. It does not do this all the time but it has become more more common. He seems the think that it has something to do with overheating. The boat is 100% stock and mostly ridden in fresh water.. And yes we hve checked for a blockage in the intake track. Any ideas.. Thanks

If you let is sit a while will it run fine ?
Have you tried to take the seat off and run it when it dies ?
    How many hours ?

    Problem solved

Diagnosed- bad cat...it's time to upgrade. D-Plate, free flow, Rideplate, Intake grate and EFI going to be done this weekend (all RIVA). There's no sense in replacing the cat, when I can do so much more with the D-plate and free flow exhaust. You know...

Oh yeah, does any one recommend R&D over Riva for any of the parts noted?

    Figured as much

Which parts depends what long term goals are for the craft, for the ride plate anyways.

Riva D-plate, intake grate and freeflow are fine. The freeflow will slow the boat down a bit. You should also consider a filter if you are going this far. EFI controller is nice to have, but not totally necessary with this level of mods

nice to hear such an easy solution... my GP1200R had a similar issue the last couple times I took it out... As I already have a D plate and some other parts on order, this thread is good news.
