98 GP1200 Guage Question for you techs

Anyone know how to hook up a guage to display hours with it out of the ski??

Reason is I have a project ski im working on that has no engine/starter/or guts really only the guage, I did figure out a way to make the guage come on and enter in the CODE but I can only get it to lock and unlock I really want to know the hours!!!!

    Anyone?

Have you tried pressing the mode button? This will scroll through all the different functions and display the hours.

you also have to trigger the signal wire..the feed from the stator i think..wherever it gets the rpm signal from (it's been a while).

i hooked up power, then i took the signal wire and tap-tap-tap about 3 times per second on the hot wire or any steady 12V for about 3-4 seconds and you fool the gauge into thinking you are starting the engine because it's reading rpms..everything lights up like a xmas tree and you can get the hours readout.. been there done that.
    have fun.

yup. red and black are power, green is the signal from the rectifier that tells the unit to turn on. I just tested mine 2 nights ago.

Ok so I can connect the red and green to + and the black to - and it will work. Or do I tap the green on the + when the red and black are hooked up.
