Keel Bunk Pad Installed On Sportster Trailer With Pics
I was waxing my hull one day and noticed a good amount of light scratching on the lower part of my keel. I figure it's gotta be that carpeted crossmember the the Keel hits when loading and unloading the boat. So I went to West Marine and purchased a Keel pad for $10.00. I removed the old carpeted crossmember from the trailer and made my own. The original piece of wood they used was a little to wide to fit the keel pad, so I used a piece of wood I had lying around that fit the Keel pad perfect.
I used 4 Galvanized screws to attach the Keel Pad to the wood and then I attached the mounting bracket back onto the wood and installed it on my Karavan trailer. I made sure to leave the Keel Pad hang over the wood on each side just a tiny bit so the hull could't touch the wood.
I'm also gonna install a 5'ft. White KeelGuard onto my hull when I get some extra money. Here are some pics of my the install.
