    engine alignment help

I found another broken motor mount and will be needing to check the engine alignment once I replace it. I spoke to a friend over at Wamilton's in S. FL to get the general idea of what to do, but would still like some input from you guys.

Does anyone have a link to a more detailed thread explaining the process on a '98 gp800 or does anyone have any input regarding dos and don'ts?

    Thanks.

If you want to do it as Yamaha says, download the copy of the svc manual that is a sticky in the top of the FAQ section here.

Thanks guys, I found a copy of the service manual on my HDD along with the laignment info as well. After pulling the coupling cover, here's what I found:

What do you think of the rubber shaft coupling, is she still good? She had one shim on each front MM and two on the rears. I want your opinion on my parts before I put it back together. Not bad either, it only took 30 minutes to get her all stripped down.

Anything else I need to look into while I'm in there?

the rubber looks ok, but you have to check the alignment with it out. check at 12, 3, and 9 o'clock. if it checks out, your good to go.

So do all the shimming and such with the rubber coupling out, then once it's right, pull the motor forward and re-intsall rubber coupling?

Here's a pic with coupling removed, but engine not back enough (I didn't try to align yet, until I knew couplings were OK).
