Smile 99 yamaha XL 1200 help???

I just found out I have 25 psi in one cylinder...ouch!!! I am trying to get the cylinder head cover off but am having problems with two bolts under the exhaust chamber that are preventing me from doing this. Do i have to remove the exhaust chamber to get the cover off? Is it difficult to get the exhaust chamber off? Any help would be appreciated!

I bought if brand new in 99 and have about 25 hours on it. (seriously). I broke my back in 99 and haven't taken it out alot. I bought a 01 GP 1200 last year and have about 32 hours on it.

Are you talking about the 2 bolts in the front that go through the exhaust chamber bracket? Pull those bolts, then losen the ones that go through the spacers on exhaust bracket. It will come right off then.

Here is a link to the service manual for the '99 XL. It says in the book to remove the exhaust chamber, but there is no reason to; it doesn't get in the way at all.

    Cool 99 xl1200

    Smitty,
Just got your response to my cylinder head removal. By the way your skii's are awesome. Great picture... Anyways, the bolts are #6 and #17 on the rear cylinder head cover. These bolts are just barely under the chamber and I can't back them out. Thanks for the link to the manual. i will give it a try.
    Thanks

    Dave

Smile 99 xl 1200 reply correction

    Smitty,
This is a correction to my last reply. the two bolts are under the muffler assembly not the exhaust chamber. The #6 and #17 bolts. Thanks again for the link to the manual. Excellent....

    Dave
