bear with me guys, more newbie questions:

ok, got it separated. now i see the impeller is chipped up and the housing has some gouges. also the bearings are shot..

do i need that tool to remove the impeller from the shaft?

also it's a polaris 4 blade impeller # 5131079. what is the pitch on this?

Impeller from which shaft? The drive shaft, no. Stub shaft, yes. That stock impeller is unknown what the pitch is. It's for a 750 or a 780.

drive shaft is out, it's the stub shaft im talking about. the tool is the only way to get the impeller off? i have to replace the bearings.

what would be a good replacement pitch for the sl 780?

Get the tool or modify a junk driveshaft for one. Remove the cone and put the stub shaft "flats" into the vise and unscrew (normal threads) the impeller. It's torqued to 100 ft lbs. so make sure your vise is secure. I suggest you go to SkatTrak.com, Solas.com, or google for Nu Jet and see what they recommend for you. Different makers and different style impellers use different pitches. Keep in mind what you are looking for performance wise. Do you want good acceleration and ride with a passanger? Or top speed?
