    WEIRD noise!

Help you guys.Just as our Limey weather gets better,my ski gets worse!I'd been out jumping waves for about an hour last night when I lost all drive, and heard a weird whining noise from the rear bearing/pump area.I found the remains of a plastic carrier bag around the rear of the ski,so I guess this was shredded by the pump.I cleared this but still had no drive, and no water out the jet. When the engine starts (without any revving),it almost sounds like a starter bendix spinning free then the noise drops away. When I rev the engine (which is running perfectly) the grating/whining sound comes in stronger.I put a long driver into the pump nozzle and found that the impellor rotates freely (engine off, of course!), so I guess the drive has broken somewhere.Do I pull out the entire pump unit,or look somewhere else first? What would be the likely thing to allow the impellor to turn without the engine? Thank's in advance of your help.DaveW.

Check the splines on your driveshaft.

Most likely your splines stripped on the driveshaft. Pull the pump and inspect. Also look inside the driveshaft cavity and inspect the splines on the midshaft.

And remember that if the prop is not turning the engine is not getting any water.

hope its ok to ask on a thread thats not mine.....

the drive shaft pushes into the back of the coupler....right...

can the splines on shaft be ok but the coupler stripped/stripping,so it all looks good from pulling the prop shaft but problem left unoticed in ski in the intermediate shaft

Yes, I have seen the midshaft strip with almost no damage to the shaft. Thats why I said to look in there real good. Hopefully its just one or the other and not both, but not likely.

Paul, you are correct. The drive shaft can be stripped or the intermediate shaft can be stripped.

    this could be deans problem....

feels like cavitation (bad) slipping....if you feed the power in slow you can get a bit more out of it but WOT forget it it slips/spins big time..

shame he has given up on it and dumped it down farm unlocked and uncovered...

most likely the splines on the intermediate shaft are stripped.
