Need help with a SLT 700!!!

Ok my roomate has a Polaris SLT 700 somewhere around a 96 or 97. Its been parked for over a year and he said when it stoped working on him, he said " Engine would sound like its was trying to accel but wouldnt go, then later on it just died." I asked if the engine was wineing o bogging down he sai he couldnt remember. I figured if its boggin down is fuel system, If it was wininh like a sowing machine then could be clutch. Just my thoughts, What do you guys suggest to check? Thanks.

Do a compression check. Let us know what you find.

Well i just found out he said a family member took it to someone and they told him it would be like 400 to fix it. Which makes me think at $90 an hour its probablly not something big. ( I believe he was a backyard marine mechanic if you know what i mean)

Let's assume you found compression numbers at 125 and 125 which would indicate the engine is sound.
Did you or didn't you have spark?
Did you try to start it with a new/fresh/tested battery?

the big black wiring box at the aft end of the engine has a circuit breaker button on it. if its popped out. push it back in. see if you get spark now.

    Boss,

Like ph20craft mentioned, You need to make sure the battery is good. Using a volt meter, check the battery voltage while cranking. The CDI requires 10v + to fire. If your voltage is good then you should test the stator. The testing procedure is in the tech section under "Domestic Electrical"

Let us know what you find!
