    I like the $99.00 etrex's
    If you loose one or smash it with your helmet you are not out too much cash. Plus they are the easiest to use.
    What do the reast of you say?

    well.....garmin makes the etrex, so I guess both.

    if "etrec" is different that "etrex" then go with the garmin.

    I've got the Garmin Etrex Vista Cx......LOVE it!

    Garmin= Ford (Manufacturer)
    Etrex= Mustang (Series)
    Vista= GT (Model)
    Cx= (Add on: like Cobra....it's a GT+)

    i have the Garmin CX as well great piece and BOB1988 has the Garmin as well we use BOTH to ck accuracy when testing. watch for SPIKING when using your gps though. spiking is leaving the water SURFACE far a split second and getting readings HIGHER than actually traveling across the water when u are HOOKED up. just what me and BOB1988 found with two GPS at the same time one may have more satellites working and catch a spike and read higher when u have them both in the boat at the same time. Spikes are NOT false readings either but because for a SPLIT SECOND u UNHOOK from the lake off a wake or rougher water and are in the air u DO acxtually travel faster but ONLY for that split second until u hook back up and are firmly back in the water at speed. good luck dude!

    What is your analogy for the Garman 60 CSx and 76 CSx?

    The etrex are good, but I like the buttons of a 60 & 76 series.

    Garmin 76Cx. Yes it floats. A lil pricey. WAY more features than the average user would need. I use mine mostly for chartplotting and street level navigation. Lets not forget weekend suicidal speed testing. Gotta love the games that are embedded in the unit software as well.

    There are several models below the 76Cx with very similiar capabilities, but they lack the large color display among other things. Still they are great units.

    If you plan to do any chartlotting, I'd consider picking up a unit with a color display. If you're just planning to use it for speed measurements and occasional track logging, there is no need for the color display.

    If you are looking for just stats, speed, max, miles traveled, etc., and no maps the Garmin wrist model is great. Wear it or velcro it to the glove box. For a map version I would go with the GPX76Cx.
