Leak issues with single layer gasket?

Heres the deal, Im getting ready to put the exhaust back on but I was thinking about going with a single layer head gasket since my compression still isnt where I want it.

I was thinking about doing it since im not testing anything right now and my exhaust is already removed, but I dont want to do it just to have to remove it again due to leaks.

Im going to have it ported in the next couple months when the weather starts to cool off and the head will be done for the oem gasket at the same time, so its not a long term deal.

Should I do it or just wait until the whole thing is done? I cant decide.

Hmm....Do you want to make more power or less ?

I did it and it made a difference in acceleration and helped my little 1200 turn a 14/20.

Never had a problem running single layer, do it on both boats. Only way I could get the squish where I want without have the cylinders decked.

I've never tried it but I've been told to give it a couple of thin coats of spray on copper gasket.

You guys make me want to take my ski apart and do a single.....

How much compression will this raise me?

    Is it easy to do?

The question is....were is your 'squish' at now with 2 layers? I ran with 1 layer last season and will NOT do it again. IMO,2 layers are alot safer, less chance of problems. There is a reason why Yamaha put 2 of them there.Check squish before going to 1 layer,if you decide to go that route, assuming your head is already been cut.
