storage bin cover smashing into boat?

Anyone have issues with the storage bin smashing into the boat during chop? The thing is closed but sounds like it's loose or something. I'm not sure whether I should adjust the locking mechanism or pad the dam thing. sounds like it's going to break off.

adjust it, and if the top plastic of the guage cluster is already damaged make an aluminum plate like I did to reinforce it or it will get worse, and if its smashing into it, breaking is not far off. I will try and get some pics of what I did with the plate, it seems Sea-Doo used a nice aluminum plate on the bottom for reinforcement at the latch area, but not on the top, so of course the plastic cracks and the latch falls down into the console.

Turns out the plastic was already cracked. Seriosly crappy workmanship on these things. I ended up making an aluminum bracket for the top and added rubber padding under both brackets to cut down on the shock. It looks and works great. The noise is gone and the door no longer slams into the hull. Speedster - thanks for the info.

hmm rubber padding eh, I may have to try that to lessen the shock on the plastic since even with the aluminum plates the plastic console could still break, though mine has held up great. It is really sad how bad some of the craftsmanship is, some stuff is really nice, while others appear to have been a total afterthought.

Helm Latch Base Reinforced (pics) 2006 Sportster

Here's the aluminum plate I made for mine thanks to the help of you guys. I had to use a fairly thin piece of aluminum becuase my latch bracket is so short and not enough threading on the ends of it. It's thin but strong and the rubber padding idea is great but I didn't do it. Here is a pic of my homemade plate and a pic of it installed on my 06 Sportster.

looks better than mine, I just cut mine from a piece of aluminum using a dremel cut off tool for lack of something better. The nuts on the bottom wiggled loose on my last outing though, so I threw some red loctite on em. I have come to the conclusion that I boat on perhaps the choppiest lake on earth.
