    rebuilding a 93 SL750

History: bought it used for cheap got 4 hours (of abuse) out of it before crank bearing siezed, 2 pistons scored 1 cyl aswell

Bought a bunch of used parts (thanx ziggler) and slapped it all together.

It starts and idles well, any more then 1/4 throttle doesn't want to rev unless I pull the choke out about half way.

Oil block off installed (40-1 in the tank)
New fuel lines, tripple output pump, fuel filter cleaned the carbs out (loaded with rust in the 2 outter carbs)
    Maybe I missed some?

I never saw a restriction in the return line. I tryed pinching off the return line and it made no difference.

Different question: How much hotter should the front cyl run? currently it runs alot hotter then the back.

sorry if it seems like rambling

No rev without choke applied sounds lean to me. Did you go through the carbs completely? Did you replace the pulse hose to the pump? Have you checked the fuel selector valve? Did you check the screens at the fuel pick up hoses inside the tank? Also are your carb settings at factory specs? A fuel restrictor can be made easily (do a search), or PM CrazyA. He may have one extra. The Mag cyl does run the hottest of the 3. Keep an eye on piston wash as a lean cyl will run hotter too.

I went as far as removing the tank and throughly cleaning it before repairing it and replacing every line in the boat.
    Fuel selector switch is clean.
    Carbs are stock settings

Pinching the return line seemed to make no difference

Sounds carb related how thoroughly did u inspect the carbs? any new parts like diaphragms, needles and seats? did u test pop off values? and were did the new crank come from? you may just want to open you high speed screws a little and see if that does anything! Z

Update: Took the ski to the water fired it up with out the flame arrester/airbox and reved it and used my hand to block (sufficate) each carb.

    front bogged (good)
    middle bogged (good)
    Rear REVED GREAT!!!!

My problem lies in the rear carb.
I plan to pull the carbs off now and go through them again and hopefully have enough time to take it back to the water and test again.

ZMANN - I did a quick clean up on the carbs. No new parts. Needle and seat looked like new, diaphrams not ripped.
I have not tested pop off values yet because I havent made the tool yet.

I plan to open the high speed and low speeds 1/4 turn maybe 1/8 turn because I havent changed them since going with the oil block off.

Another update: cleaned the carbs and water tested.
It will do 40ish mph for about 5-10 secs and then die out.
Restarts with choke on almost instantly.

Have you done a compression test or checked your piston wash? You may have a piston going bad.

I pulled the heads off this morning and found......

front cyl is too lean (I turn the high mix 1 turn out)
    middle cyl is perfect
rear cyl is very rich (turned in half turn)

off to lake Ontario (10 mins away)
