    RAIDER RIDE PLATE MODS-How to

Here's a peek at what I have been up to. I may offer this service for a small fee in the future. Not sure what the gains are yet, but it's gotta help a little. At the very least it will make shimming the ride plate alot easier since you only have to wrestle with 4 screws instead of 6.

Step 1- Sawzall off the middle mounting bosses
Step 2- Prep for welding or epoxy
Step 3- Fill hole with weld or epoxy
    Step 4 -grind smooth
    Step 5- enjoy

Here are some pics of my modded shorty. I have not done the above mod to it yet, but I milled out a 4" wide section in the middle and installed an aluminum plate at a 5* angle. It turned out that the 5* was too much, especially with the 5* exit nozzle. It would porpoise at any speed over 40, regardless of the shims. So I dropped the angle to 3* and it is much better. Now it only porpoises at speeds over 55, but I have not had enough time to try all shimming combo's yet. Best part is that it tracks straight through almost any chop, and it handles like it has the extended nozzle with the stock nozzle.

Mike, that looks good. I think there has to be more speed to be found in the ride plate.

I have been playing around with a Rend Plate with the skegs removed. The plate looks like it should be fast beacause it's so clean. The mounting bolts are countersunk flush with the plate. Also the rear of the plate is angled up a few degrees. So far the Protec Plate is still faster but the Rend Plate seems to handle better. Need to work on shimming the front down and playing with the angle on the back. It's easy to bend the back of the plate to any angle. The dremo pickup is useless because it sits to high in the plate and only shows about 10 mph at 60 gps.
