impeller clearance tool... use computer paper!!!

Ok, I was reading my service manual and they mention the impeller clearance and what it should be etc. it also looks like they are using an old school spark plug gap tool to check it. I don't have such a tool... but I figured it out somewhat...

A standard A4 sheet of paper is about 300 mm long, and about 0.05 mm thick. (basic computer paper)

folded 1 time in half would equal 0.1mm .... folded again and you get 0.2mm etc then you can slide in between your prop and see if it fits.

If you need smaller increments just use individual sheets of standard A4 paper stacked together to go in .05mm increments.

Stock clearance should be between .15mm and .3mm... when you get outside of that range and closer to .6mm then it is time to seek some help with your pump/prop.

I checked all blades and also in various positions and i get roughly .20 to .25 clearance around the blades.

What do you guys think? maybe you can check yours when you go to put on your rideplates.

    Quick and easy.

Well, now that I know what the tool is really called it should be easier to find it. I will check Sears today. I used the computer A4 paper as a quick and dirty way to test the gap. If I find the feeler guages while I have my pump off I will pick up the tool to double check before re-installing my pump.
