I like both the Rotax Racing thru hull and the Riva. I ran the Riva on my ski without issue for a long time. I have since donated it to Carey and im going with the RR on my new buildup.
Either is good. If you don't mind the higher price go for the RR.
I love the Riva air intake. Alot of us use this intake with great results and obtain even better results by extending the air intake out with some 3" hose. The best setup for this IMO is to extend it out into a port in the front seat vent that way you are only ingesting cooler outside air.
Im about to do this to Carey's ski and will post pics of exactly how i did this.
Definately go with a Riva intake grate whatever you do.

I have the r&d grate on it now. Seems to me that the fins on the grate are not flush with the hull. Do i need to plane the mounting surfaces of the grate so the fins are flush? Seems to me that this would cause a serious drag and loss of top end speed?

Joe, do yourself a favor and lose the R&D grate and install a Riva grate. Just trust me on this

Im not sure about the big skis. If you want hookup thru chop the R&D probably works very well for your setup.

I had the R&D on my '03 GTX and I trimmed the fins down the way you were talking about. It still worked just as well but didn't seem to pull down as much. Did not check speed differance. Run the Riva on my RXT and like it much better than the R&D.

Yeah, I got the metal pump last year. I am thinking about switching to the Solas and adding the air intake this spring. The ski comes out in a couple of weeks and it is about time to decide what to do, if anything.
