96 xp -R&D 85/88 nozzle question
Hello everyone. Just installed the 85/88 R&D nozzles. I have noticed that the vts is just about trimmed fully up. The adjuster rod is out fully. Is there a longer rod/adjuster required, or will something have to be fabricated for a fully functional vts? Thanks! Jack

My machine used to have the R&D nozzles on it. When I got it I put the original nozzles on and the rod was way too short. I went to a SD dealer to get a longer rod, which I did, but it was also thicker. So I had to get a new Heim joint as well. I went back to the ski and put it on, only to find out it was too long.
So I said screw it. I made my own from 10-32 threaded rod. Cost me $1.50 and some time. Now I have these rods that cost ridiculous amounts of money and are useless. If you go this route just know that it's not SS so it'll rust unless painted.

Did you buy the nozzles with a trim ring installed? If so, check the trim ring to make sure that the tab where the vts rod mounts sticks back in toward the hull. I got a set off ebay that were on a GSX. I had the same issue you are having until I realized that the GSX uses a trim ring that has the vts rod mounting tab straight up and down, not an inch or so back toward the hull like the XP. It's easily overlooked...
