    sl900 to 1050 help

Hello again from HOT Arizona. Finally got the 96 sl900 running. Here's what I have: 1050 jugs (from my dead sltx) and Platimun Series pistons, the upgraded CDI and stator, impellor from my 96 sltx (bearings out in the 900. It had curved leading edges on it like a boat prop and my 2 stlx's have straight edges),and the jetting is Pilot #58 Mid #58 and Mains 142 142 138 pto.(that's how the 96 sltx was jetted) Starts right up and idles fine. Mash on the throttle and it takes off kind of like you're dragging an anchor up to 3000-3800. Of course trim affects that too. Anyway, there's no stumble just quits in the mid 3's, WOT, UNTIL you hit some chop and the pump gets some air in it and then it will jump on up into the mains and run like crazy. Seems like it needs a little help getting the rpm up. Max RPM +/- 5900. Seems like it just struggles to pull its own weight with WOT. (until it gets into the mains) Cruises fine 2500 up to 3500. Try to cruise around 2200 rpm and it starts falling off like running out of gas, pump the throttle and you can recover. Wrong impellor? Wrong jetting? Fuel pump? Where to start?
    Thanks, azcornman

open the low screws 1/2 turn and see what happens.
If it gets better you know you're too lean or have a fuel supply issue.
Have you tried the tuning tips for rookies yet?

well me and this guy dont have adjustable carbs ,

    i installed 142 , 142 , and 138 s

an 58 pilots all around ,

now it did have 38s , now it has 40s ,

it doesnt seem 2 make sense that it need smaller jets if the carbs are bigger ,

and im scared 2 spend 50 bucks on jets and be wrong ,

What carbs are you running? The 900 ones or the 1050 ones? You really should be running the ones from the SLTX and use their stock jetting. The 900 carbs are significantly different.

    They would be Keihins

Thanks fellas, just got home. Yes they are Keihins. I didn't realize there was a difference between the 900 and sltx carbs. They look identical except the 900 has the primer nozzles and the sltx has choke butterflies. I would have to do some work to put in a choke cable. Or do I need it? Anyway, I need to mention I have Ocean Pro arrestors on it also. That's what was on it when I bought it. Also read the tuning tips. These carbs don't have high speed adjusters. One note, this has been the basic problem since I bought it. Then had mag piston seize from lean run. Built up the 1050, had the same lean condition but I was looking for it and didn't run it. Swapped the fuel pump and accelerator pump from the 1050 mag carb and fixed the lean run. Now I'm back to the original problem. Now I'm thinking after reading the tips I should check pop off pressure. Will that have effect on high speed? Should I put on the sltx carbs?

    Thanks
