What Type Of Head
Guys need some advice and info. here. I have a 2001 GPR 1200 R with a 67 X head.It only yields 125 P.S.I. cut of course and I was told told it should yield more like 135 P.S.I.....I'm currently running 2 layers on the head gasket. Now the other head that is available is a 66V and I was told it can be cut to get near 150 P.S.I.I don't understand why the 67X head won't yield 150 P.S.I. or near but the 66V does?Or Is there something else going on that I'm missing?

Billy thanx alot for buzzin in. I need to know why these heads are different when cut because I was told that the 66 V head found in the XLT was slightly higher compression than a 1200 GPR 67x head stock for stock. I f this is true then can anyone please chime in or is it a big secret?

I have no experience with the stock heads, sorry. You might call Jim or Carl and see what they have to say.

I will do that but I would like to see if Duke, Waterwoody, or anyone else would chime in.

my neighbor has an XLT and it read 125 stock when we last checked it 2 mos ago.
I have an XLT silver head and two black GPR heads in my garage...

I am nearly certain there arent 2 different heads for the 12r's. On my GPR I have a stock head cut to 150lb but my gauge is only reading 135 with 2 layers of the head gasket and 142 with one layer .
I would say the problem is your gauge (just like me). Best way would of been to check compression before and after the head was/is cut.

I would like to hear Jim, Lowell, Group K or others that cut heads chime in!
