    could this be a problem??

just got my carbs to day and didn't really like what i found, but i guess thats what i get for buying used. looks like the guys motor detonated and gouged the intake and there are swirled scratch marks where the rotary valve opens and closes. on the carbs themselves the stopper on the rear carb seems to be cut off. so that leads me to this question...could this possibly be a problem??

sorry added one to many pix...disregard the first pix

You can clean up the RV cover/manifold with a light file and wet sand paper. Pull the carbs and inspect the entire mainfold and carb bodies.

No, There is no reason to have a stop/idle adj. on the rear carb. The linkage does all the work at the back(PTO) carb.

Also, with used carbs, clean them completely and verify the jetting(incl. N/S condition/pop-off preasure).

the RV cover is smooth but that gougue is what worries me. could this affest performance? it seems that the guy tried to smooth it out and its not jagged just a piece missing.
as for the carbs i planned on rebuilding them anyway. i have a factiry spec 2 pipe and i'm pretty sure i need new jetting. are there markings on the jets to identify them??

Can you take us a clearer pic of the damaged port? I'd be concerned too.

Better pic, thanks. You got what you paid for. He discounted the price because of the damage...otherwise the carbs would have been 100-$150 more. It sucks he wasn't up front with you though. You may or may not lose performance from the damage...it can be remachined, or you can buy another intake.

as long as that face is flat you should be ok. that gouage shouldnt mess with any. as long as it dont go all way threw were it is cracked. your not moving enough air for that to matter. besides what size is that port? 2 in maybe 3? so that spot must be smaller then a 1/16 mark it looks
