Opinions will vary, I'd go with the touch test. If you can't hold your hand on the cyl for a few seconds, shut it down and let it cool for a bit. I personally like to run my garden hose through the pump intake hose, that is like it running in the water, all day long like that. Using the flush kit, the MAG gets pretty warm fast.

just make sure you turn the water off before you kill the engine ,

    WATER

5 Minutes Is About It,the Carrier Bearing Will Get Very Hot From Friction And Damage It,the Drive Shaft Back Half Is Emersed In Water When Operating And Keeps It From Overheating

Sounds paranoid, but if I'm flushing it on the trailer for any length of time I hold a second hose at the rear nozzle periodically just to keep things cool. I'm usually washing the ski and trailer off at the time anyways.

Also like xlint89, I connect the hose to the normal cooling water inlet from the pump. Runs cool all day like that.

why is it so important to trun the water off first. Potential of hydrolock im guessing? the reason i ask is because i left the water on for about 2 min without the ski running the other day...everything is still fine though.

As far as I know, in some areas of the exhaust the gases and water do not have a barrier between the two and share common spaces. Running the engine keeps things flowing in an outward direction, both exhaust gases and cooling water that is piped to the exhaust. When you kill the engine with water still pumping into it, it will eventually fill the exhaust piping and make it's way into the motor. That's my take on it.

on polaris its a str8 shot 2 the crank case , as long as it doesnt have exhuast gas to push the water back , so it will spill back in the cly .
