Cool 2004 MSX 150 loss of RPMs....

First visit to this great forum...and I bring a new problem that happened today. Cruising along just fine, until I reached around 6000 RPM. I hear this short PHFFT (like a relief valve doing its thing), and the engine drops down to about 4200 max, and the 'check engine' light comes on. Kill the engine...wait a few minutes...and she fires off just fine. Everything goes well as long as I limit the RPM's to the high 5000 range. No more 'check engine' warning. But you guessed it...just as soon as I take it to 6000, here comes the PHFFT sound, the engine backs down to the 4200 range, and the light comes back. This happens every time....

This ski has been running beautifully until today...speeds around 62 MPH with two adults, and RPM's around 7450. Any suggestions?

Thank you for the quick response! I'm not familiar with the turbo bov valve...is this the correct name, and will our only Polaris dealer understand what I am ordering? Most importantly...how much 'plumbing' will I have to remove to replace this....

Once again...thanks for the insight, and "boy" am I glad to find this site!

I think that it would be #6 boost control valve. But I'm 100% positive as I'm not familiar with this craft. Look on partsland.com, they have a good picture of everything.

Thank you, GODSMACK! I printed the parts breakdown and took it by the Polaris dealer today. His picture identified part #6 as the wastegate valve, and after parting with around $160, I have one on its way.... Really hope that this solves my problem. It took me over a year to talk the 'bride' in even buying a used ski, and if she knew about all of the money I have been spending to get this MSX up to my standards, I would be riding solo!
