Thread: rust

so the previous owner of my '94 sl750 replaced the bendix, but apparently neglected to reapply gasket sealant to the cover, or to replace the airbox. Upon removing thr cover I was greeted with a fine, thin coat of "rust dust" on everything. No wonder my bendix wouldn't engage, it was bone dry of grease and starting to corrode. My question is about the stator: does it need to be replaced, and how much might one cost? thanks a lot, any help is appreciated.

Stator can be tetsted with an ohmeter for condition. They can be had anywhere from $50 to $100 used on Ebay or from someone parting a ski out. A 750 and 780 stator can be interchanged FYI.
