    My New SL900 to 1050 is Slow ;-( Whats Up

    So I finished all my warm up runs and after the full throttle run I let it sit for an hour. So I go out and romped on it some.... But even though it can take my 97 900 off the line the 900 will pass at 64.5 @ 6450 while my new 96 1050 topped out at 53.1 at 6520. I have a stock 96 sl900 with 1050 top end and 40mm carbs. The only mod is a PWC Impeller, 16.5 - 23 pitch, Solas model # PA-SC-XO. Other than that it is bone stock. Also how can I tell if my oil pump is working? I am running premix at 32/40 to 1 and injection. Thanks guys. BTW is this normal for a new engine? Will it loosen up over time and get faster?

    BTW Compression is M/C/P => 121/118/120

    32:1 or 40:1 in addition to the injection system is toooo much oil.

    welp . you would have to take off your carbs an see if the fuel is a pretty color but doing that means you gotta take the injection lines off only again ,

    i tell ya if you have maybe a little bit of smoke , how much smoke do you have with double the oil you need

    Twice as much as the 900 at least. I have killed every bug for miles.

    The continuing operation of your engine is a pretty good sign your oil pump is working

    haha, enough smoke to kill every bug on the lake is a pretty good sign too!

    I agree,too much oil not helping.I think,disconnecting oil lines 1 at a time to check flow,or clean hose and watch it change color if you have a dark color oil. Or only run premix for peice of mind.

    All impeller company's use different method of measuring imp pitch. #'s not consistent. Your RPM's are close to max,your speed should be good. Try the 97 pump stator/imp combo (easy to switch) to get a good reference point/diagnose dirrection.Verify trim is working.

    Thanks guys... The trim needed to be re calibrated. At zero is was almost all the way up. But now I have another problem. Anyone want to try to help me with this one?

    The RPM seems a tad low...What part number cylinders were they again? Where did you set the timing? What heads did you end up using? Stock 1050 ones? That XO impeller should work well for that setup, so that's not it. The best way to check the oil injection is to see if the oil tank is going down. I'll usually mark the tank, run a tank of fuel through it, then see how much fuel and oil it takes to fill back up and divide the two. Should be around 50ish:1, depending on how it was run.
