RXT/GTX Hull. Do they 'hunt in the chop'?

Every review i read of the RXT and GTX hull in PWI criticises its unstable handling in the chop compared to other models. What do others think of this criticism? From what i can see the hulls have not changed since 2002. Why doesn't BRP address this if its a problem? Is OPAS the cause?

With Riva grate, Jerry's skegs and RE Blockoffs there is no hunting at all...just good traction.

At low speeds the OPAS paddles are down and there isnt any hunting
At mid speed and in chop the paddles seem to influence the aft end and its direction. Through chop I feel as if the backend is sliding and the ski surging. That is probably due to the pump breaking in and out of the water causing the paddles to drop then when the pump hits the water again the paddles move to the proper position based on the speed. The paddle positions down, mid, or up depending on the speed.

Now locking the opas paddles in the up position through any chop the surging is gone and sliding of the back end is barely noticable.

I love the opas when taking the ski on and off the trailer. Other than that it seems to hinder performance.

In the wind or current any ski will hunt.
If a current is strong enough to push a submarine that dispalces 18200 tons around like its a cork, imagine what a 7 to 10MPH wind will do to a relatively flat boat 800lb ski.

But I think the OPAS has a lot to do with the trackability through chop.

Thanks guys, I have an 02 GTX Di with blockoffs which doesnt seem to track too badly. I'm going to upgrade and im deciding what to buy. Doesn't seem right to have to have to spend money on mods to get a brand new ski to track straight.

Remember most of the information being shared here is not necessarily issues for the average consumer.

Most people are not looking to go 60MPH over chop or ride the ski on the hairy edge of disaster.

Our RXT's definitely hunt in the chop...
They hunt Kawis, Yamahas, Hondas, and sometimes they pull hard toward bikinis...

although I`m very happy with the way my 04 GTX handles overall, if I`m caught in a clusterfu-k of jet wash from riding behind many ski`s, my GTX is all over the place, listing, chine-walk, hopping you name it, all`s you can do is hang on woo hoo woot woot!...PR...

the opas SUCKS, and nearly threw me off the ski several times.
my friend on a fx140 was killing me every time the chop picked up.
i am blocking up the opas this week
