how do you omit mercury switch?

How do you guys by-pass the mercury switch for the T.O.P.S.?
is the circuit normally open or closed?
TOPS is working when you plug in the lanyard, just want to know how to by-pass for diagnostic purposes, seems when I goe in rough waters, or ski gets slammed it cuts out, wondering if switch is bad.
Is the mercury switch making contact, enabling ski to run? or is it an open circuit and when the ski bow raises to a certain point the mercury make contact and shuts ski off? how does this work?...Thanks...PR...

Andy, you just short the two connections on the plug to turn it off. I found this in another thread awhile back.

When I go even slightly vertical with my 04 RXP it does the same thing. It is dangerous when you are somewhere like Monster Hole. Is there a thread that tells you exactly where this wire is. I have no clue.

look at lower right hand corner, see black lead, there is a electricl part mounted on the MPEM plate, I belive this is the mercury switch. I wouldn`t cut or alter any wires on the T.O.P.S. valve itself, that needs to cycle upon start up and recognized running along with OSPS...PR...

i think there's some mis-understandings here.... and PR is onto it

there's a valve, and there's a switch... they are two different things and two different locations.

the switch is a sealed plastic black housing on the MPEM bracket with basically a litle ball in it that rolls around for a mercury switch and the housing has notches for the ball so it moves when the ski reaches a certain rollover point.

the valve itself for 02-05 motors is built into the filler neck assembly on the front oil pump cover.

you cannot just unplug the tops valve and call it a day, it opens and closes with good reason for it opening and closing at certain times... you cannot just unplug it and jump it out. you would need to REMOVE the valve and then bypass the wires... if you unplug it and jump the wires well, nice crank breather you've devloped there, bc nothing is breathing
