Thread: Topped Out!!!

Well,i know most you guys are in the 70s or even 80s but i try to let you in on some progress with a stock ski.. I posted before with nothing done at all i went 63.9mph in 90degree weather and later went 65.3 by moding the air intake inlets, same temp.. Recently i added a pump seal kit and r&d intake grate that i sanded and polished and ran 64.8mph,so i slowed a bit with the grate,,,I then side gapped and indexed the plugs, sanded and polished the pump shoe and factory ride plate, filled the holes where the mounting bolts are for the pumpshoe which i think is a big help and tested yesterday.... Here are the results,,,66.0mph a few times but mainly around 65.8mph and it was 91degrees and humidity worse...So,i look at this as if i sanded the stock grate and done all these other minor things that i did it would be close to 67mph with no aftermarket parts... My plan was to get the most out of the ski stock and move on so today i removed the head and its time to order some parts( a lot of parts)30days from now i should be back on the water with a lot of mods... Thanks

The ride plate is by far the most bang for the buck.

now that the modding has started do not put the stock grate back on - it is dangerous to use - it makes a good paper weight

Great thread! I'll be watching this one. It's amazing how fast the GPR hull is once it's tuned right in stock form... I recently ran 64.1MPH on GPS this past weekend with nothing but a d-plate and some pretty deep gouges in the bottom of the hull.
Keep us updated!

What year is your ski James? If it is pre 05 I would really consider the new style pump. Much better acceleration and a solid 1.0 on top.
Looks like you are headed in the right direction! Keep us posted.

updated with new mods!!!
Hey guys, got the ski together with my new mods and went out yesterday with no tuning just riding sense its been down a bit and was very happy with the results... I ran 73.4mph trim up one position with full tank of full and 100:1 mix in tank along with oil pump for safety and went 73.5mph with 3/4 full in neutral position and decided it was running great so i will try next time out on low fuel.. This speed is with tabs stock, sponsons stepped,1200 grate, ( Jims awesome plate at 1.020) and efi set at 3,4,2,7 ....I will make minor adj to controller and prob back the plate down to 1 inch... I believe i could easily get 75mph on low fuel with straight gas in tank and when the weather cools off,oh man... I know the sound suppression bypass slows me a bit also but you got to love that sound...(BTW: These runs were on the seat and not superman.....) Here are my mods.......
150psi head ( Jims Performance )
race flame arrestor
14/20 ( really 13/19 ) no tweaking yet
VF3s and spacer
sound suppresion bypass

Good info Jim, keep us informed, i'm watching this one.
An 800 grate would net 1.5 -2 mph, it did on mine.
