Cant get Over 1800 RPMs?
I have a 96 Polaris SLX 780 that was sort of throbbing, but still ran pretty well, now it will not get over 1800 rpms. It starts right up without any problems. I guess I am lost on where to look for the problem. Could it be a clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump? It also seems to smoke more than usual. Hope this is not a double, post I am kinda new and did not see anything like this out there. I did recently top off the oil with some bombadier oil but it seems to have run fine with it all season.

If it were mine, I'd be looking for a fuel issue. Make sure the lines are free flowing and if the carbs haven't been cleaned now would be an excellent time.
If you don't want to go through the carbs send them off to Randy at Watcon and for 40 bucks a carb plus (needed parts only), he'll rebuild them.

How do the sparkplugs look? And try what he suggested ^^^. More than likely your fuel pump isn't the issue. More likely the filters. 1 in-line and 1 in each carb. Also check for a restriction in the fuel hoses.
