    96 xp up and runnin!!!!

    hello all
i have recently posted a few threads about a 96 xp that was given to me
and all you guys here have helped me get in going again thanks
so here is another question! this is a carb question if you where to look down on the carbs with them installed you would see an adjustment screw on each is this the idle adjustment? if so should they both be the same?if they are not idle related what are they? the diagrams i have looked at say that the idle is on bottom but others say they are on top. also the cylinder that the screw is all the way in seems to be burning ok but the cylinder that the screw is out on looks like i just took iot out of the box clean, no sign of any carbon.the ski runs very good jumps right up on plane and very fast in fact when you stab it it wants to jump out of water

    any help would be appreciated

    kevin

The idle screw is on the front carb, closest to the tank, on the bottom. It is very easyto identlfy because it holds both throttle linkages open. It is angled at a 45 degrees.

hey SS, got a dumb question for ya. how can I determine what diameter and type my carbs are? i think that they are either 44 or 46's.i know that they are mikuni's and they look like the BN series..i bought some a little bit ago and wanted to buy some flame arrestors. i suppose i need to find some micrometers or calipers?? if you are looking for a pix i posted on a while back on the thred "96 xp moin' on uuuup!"
    thanks in vadvance

for a stock set-up, lows should be 1 turn +/- 1/4, highs should be closed on mag carb and 1/4 on the pto.

    thanks in vadvance
You have to pull the carbs and measure the ID facing the RV...that is the "44" or "46" diameter. Measure the OD on the flanges the flame arrestors mount to. Some need adapters, some don't.
