Why do you say the R&D grate is faster than the Pro-tec?

Some of you said that the R&D intake grate is faster than the Pro-tec. I got the 1200R/800R grate today and the 1300R grate to see which I like better. Only difference is in the middle piece of the grate. It might be because the pro-tec ones are painted but they look a hell of a lot better than the R&D.

The scoop on the grate will vary in depth and angle
effecting the top speed. It can also make the ski overstuff
    the pump quicker.

Why? 100's of hours of testing by some of the top tuners in the country. That's why.

dont think r&d make a 1300 grate, their grates fit all 1200's and 1300's.

the only differences is there is a single vein and a twin vein in the 1200/1300 grate. I have been told by an r&d resller here and he also said that the single vein is a little slower top end.

The R&D 1200 grate is faster. I have both and can't remember how much faster the RD is over the pro-tec, but it is. Those numbers are out there if you search.

I gained 1.5 MPH changing from a R&D 1200 to a R&D 800 grate that was fit to my pump shoe and imperfections massaged out of it. Back to Back tests ran one flipped ski on its side on the shore changed grates ran another, less than 10 minutes apart. Most people see gains of about 1 mph in fairness the 1200 grate was bone stock no adjustments.

I spent several weekends years ago testing every intake grate we have for our skis - after soliciting freebies from the manufacturers on the agreement that I would post unbiased results. The Protec is a good grate, but is meant for an under-70 mph ski based on my testing. Violent bucking (not porpoising) at anything over 70.

wow - Pretty cool how technical everything gets. The Pro-tec and R&D actually look so close to each other. I got the r&D 800/1200 grate and the 1300. Wanted to try them both out. The only difference is how the wing is shaped. Everything else is the same between both pro-tecs. Ill let you guys know what I find.
