    66V Stock Reed Life

Hey guys, just curious if anyone had any experience with the effective lifespan of the stock reeds in a STOCK 66V / GPR motor. Mine are the originals at nearly 310 hours. I'm not feeling any "puffs" out of the carbs while cranking, but I can't help but think they've got to be getting worn. Also if I want to order new reeds, I was looking @ the Riva diagram but can't tell what I'd need to replace the petals themselves. It seems like items 9 and 11 are the reeds, but why only two "sets" it seems like I should have 3?

#8 and #10 are the reeds with cages. The first and third cylinder are the same part number.

As for longevity of stock reeds, I couldnt tell you. I have never run the stock reeds in my GPR's. I am sure someone will give you an idea of the life span.

Cool, then just to be clear I would need 2 #11's and 1 #9... correct?

    Thanks again!

If you just wanted to replace the petals, that would be correct.

I have no idea how much the petals cost, but you might want to place a wanted add in the classifieds for some stock reeds. There will probably be a lot of members that have gone to aftermarket reeds that would sell the complete reed cages real cheap. I have sold a complete set of brand new reeds and cages for $45.00.

At around 100 hours a couple of my petals were burn't and some had edges that weren't sealing.

190 hours, they looked fine. 1 or 2 very small chips on the edge of 2 petals but they still sealed fine.

Yeah... so with 310 they probably can't be 100% anymore... I'll post a WTB ad in the classifieds and try to score some with less hours. Thanks again guys.

You need 3 sets of #9, cause #9 and #11 are the same part number. The reed blocks are different, but all the reeds are the same. PS, I wouldn't go thru all that work to put used ones in.

I changed mine @ 190 hours and they looked good as the new OEM petals I put in my 2001. If your going to replace yours, buy new. I seem to remember paying $30 a set new.
